Green Sanctuary is the name of a formalized process developed by the organization, Ministry for the Earth (formerly Seventh Principle Project), to assist UU congregations in living in greater harmony with our planetary home while also helping solve the numerous environmental crises that threaten our quality of life and the lives of future generations. At our 2004 Annual Meeting, we voted as a congregation to work to become an accredited Green Sanctuary by completing the following process:
Over the last two and half years, we actively engaged in carrying out our Action Plan which we completed in December 2007. In February 2008, we completed the last step of this multi-year process by submitting our application for accreditation to the UUMFE. We currently await notification as to the status of our application. To learn more about the First Parish Green Sanctuary Initiative, you may e-mail Green Sanctuary Committee Co-Chair Denise Frizzell. Also, of note, as part of our Green Sanctuary process, The Standing Committee approved a set of Green Policy Guidelines on November 28, 2007, to support and advance The First Parish Church, UU, Northborough congregation’s commitment to live in greater accordance with the UU Seventh Principle, “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are part.” |
