Help Make It a Great Success Again

If you have perennial plants that need thinning, there are pots at Parish Hall for potting up your contributions. Please label your plants with the plant name, sun requirements, and flower color. The plants can be brought to the yard area at the Parish Hall on the weekend of Memorial Day.

Starts of veggies, annuals, herbs, and houseplants are very welcome. We intend to also have a yard sale of garden related items. No furniture please. Questions? Contact Renee at  rt.touch@gmail.com or Karen at  karen.nelson4745@gmail.com

A thank you letter, from the Unitarian Church of Montpelier

Dear First Parish Church UU,

On behalf of our congregation, we want to thank you for your generous support of our July 2023 flood recovery efforts. Without your support and the tireless commitment of volunteers and staff, we would not have been able to reopen our building for services on Sunday, October 15th just three months after the flood devastated central Vermont.

Our recovery efforts have included the following: basement clean-up, baseboard and drywall removal, floor refinishing, furniture replacement, kitchen cabinetry removal, electric panel replacement, fire panel repair, water heater replacement, and sink hole filling. We also have plans to permanently replace the organ blower as well as the elevator which services our second-floor sanctuary.

A longer term project is the restoration of our kitchen as we continue mold remediation and develop plans to redesign the space for our current needs and flood resiliency. A hopeful development is that our UCM Community Lunch team is currently working with other faith-based organizations who provide meals in Montpelier to develop a shared, community-based kitchen.

Along with our broader community, our congregation has endured an intense period of loss and change. We have also come together to continue our ministry to one another and the community outside our walls. Having your support has strengthened us and lifted our spirits as we have faced this challenging time.

Thank you again for your generosity, and please enjoy this note card designed by Montpelier raised artist, Madeline Goddard.

With gratitude, Rev. Joan Javier-Duval, Minister

Claudia Clark, Governing Board President

Two concerts coming up at First Parish

Tickets: $20 at the door.

Cynthia MacLeod is one of Prince Edward Island’s finest ambassadors of traditional music carving a distinct style of fiddling that embraces both her local roots and her ancestral connection to the Scottish highlands.

Accompanist and featured vocalist Gordon Belsher is Winner of the PEI Music Association 2014 “Lifetime Achievement Award” and has been performing in Canada and around the world for more than 40 years.

Cynthia and Gordon first performed together in Charlottetown, on Canada Day 2002.

As quoted by Doug Gallant of the Charlottetown Guardian:
“there is a lovely chemistry between MacLeod and Belsher on stage, and a
generosity of spirit that seems to come out whenever you put the two together before an audience.”

HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVE for Children in Foster Care

The holidays are just around the corner and we would like to get an idea how many kids our church will be able to sponsor this year in the gift drive. Each person/family who signs up sponsors a child, whose age, gender, or wish list will be available in November.

Please email Tracey Turner, if you would like to participate in this annual First Parish holiday tradition.

Gifts will be due in by 12/14. The children are under the care of a long term Northborough Foster Family who works with the Department of Children and Families (DCF). DCF, in partnership with families and communities, works to keep children safe from abuse and neglect and toward establishing the permanency and well-being of children by providing supports and services to families at home when it is safe to do so.

Community Meals Starting December

The Community Meals Program is gearing up to offer in-person meals again at Trinity Church starting this December. We are looking for volunteers to help prepare meals and/or set up/serve/clean up. The time commitment for the entire process is from about 4:30 pm – 7 pm on the Wednesday we are hosting. If you can commit to helping for part of that time, that would be great.

Please contact Alicia Coderre if you are interested in helping out. We will be coordinating our efforts with the Church of the Nativity in Northborough, and plan to host 3 meals over a 12 month period. Our first hosting event will be in late January, 2024.

Winter Weather Closures

If the weather makes coming to the church building a safety hazard, then your Board President, in consultation with your Interim Co-Ministers, will make the decision early Sunday morning.

If there is a decision to not meet in person, this will be announced in the Sunday morning Perspective emailed early Sunday mornings, posted in the church’s Facebook page, and given to the local radio station.

If possible we will still meet on zoom.
